What to do in Cagliari - We suggest as first stop of your tourist itineray in Cagliari, the area around Castello. Castello was built under the Pisan’s domination in the 12th century. It is the city’s ancient fortification. The historic centre is still partially enclosed by the bastioned walls. It preserves most of the beautiful monuments testifying to the history of the town: the Cathedral, The Royal Palace, the Archaeological Museum, the Bastion of Saint Remy, and the magnificent towers of Saint Pancrazio and of the Elephant. The two medieval towers in white stone stand along the bastion enclosure along with two city gates that escaped demolition during the 19th century.
The Castello tourist itinerary begins at the Porta di Saint Pancrazio entrance or from the Porta dei Leoni, and follows the intricate web of Spanish-influenced streets.
